Casting agents want photographs that are simple and honest.
If you're an actor booking a headshot session, my approach will be straightforward and restrained. The images I take of you shouldn’t mislead the people who will ultimately view them. When you walk into an audition, you should look like the person in the photograph.
If you're after a portrait, that’s a chance for us — photographer and performer — to experiment and explore more freely.
On the day of your session, I don’t want either of us to feel rushed. Good work happens when we both have the time to focus. I only book two sessions a day and always leave a decent gap between shoots so we can run over if necessary. A session usually lasts around three and a half hours, with at least two hours spent on the photography itself.
When you arrive, we’ll spend some time discussing exactly what you need. I’ll take a few test shots to get the lighting right. You can change costumes if and when it feels necessary. We can try a couple of different backgrounds, with the choice guided by what you’re wearing.
After the shoot, we’ll review the images together and begin narrowing them down. If at any point you feel like reshooting something or trying a different approach, that’s absolutely fine.
I don’t believe in overshooting — too much choice can be overwhelming. That said, I’ll take plenty of photographs, and you’ll have more than enough to choose from.
Once the shoot is over, I’ll send you a gallery of the images. Pick 6 that best suit your needs and I’ll prepare them so that skin tone and contrast look gentle and natural. You’ll receive the finished versions within 7 days.
